Years ago a girl died while camping with some friends in the woods along Darby Creek in this park. The cause of her demise is unknown, but out of all the camping excursions with her friends, she did not come out alive on her last one.
Apparently, now and then you can see the ghost of a girl walking through the woods at night. You can see the glow of her lantern as she strolls along through pathway that runs through the park. Perhaps her soul was never allowed to leave when her life came to a sudden end in this place.
I've been caught in this park after sundown and it is quite an adventure making your way out at night. Especially if you are deep into the park past the Indian Rocks.
If you know any more information about this haunting, please post a comment!
im a firefighter and we had a brush fire about a year ago around 3:30 A.M. and as we got the fire under control we saw a light on the pathway that was moving, we called out to it and had no reaction of the person of trying to hide or not be seen, we shined our flashlights at it still got no response we were able to get within about 50 feet of the light before it went out and we could not find the person, the light ended where the bike ramps are (past the rocks by about 100 yards down the path near the lone rock in the creek and the kids ride their bikes )
ReplyDeleteI was doing some maintenance on geocache in this park today. When I hiked to the cache location and crossed the stream, I saw not one single soul. A short while later the sun went down and I had finished, so I started back. When I got to the creek crossing, there was this random young blond girl sitting by the creek side! I don't normally get freaked out by seeing young women while I'm hiking, but that was just weird. I rarely see anyone in that park. I didn't even speak to her or look at her. She was just sitting there on the bank of the creek along the trail all by herself and it was after sun down. What was she doing there? I quickly walked past her and got the heck out of there as fast as I could!
ReplyDeleteWell, I was at this park again mid-day today confirming coordinates for a geocache placement. I saw no girl today, however, I walked by the spot on the trail where I saw the girl sitting yesterday and got some chills up my spine. The spot the girl was sitting on was a slab of old discarded concrete. I would not be out of the ordinary otherwise, except for the fact that it was the exact size and shape of a grave stone laying face down!
ReplyDeleteI'm a local of Springfield and this is really interesting to me. I think the whole story behind it is crazy. My friends and I are thinking about camping in the woods on Halloween. Should be spooky. I wonder if there is a news paper article about the girl that died in the park, if you have any more information, please comment back!
ReplyDeleteif i remember correctly from when i was 18 about15 years ago when you walk into the woods from the trolly tracks midway between the tracks and where you cross the creek in the woods on the right there is kinda low growing plants. its not a clearing and there are trees but the ground is flat. there should be a grave stone there. or a stone with engravings. pretty sure it was for a pet. we would go and sit by the creek everyday after school you can imagine we were a bit freaked when we found it.
ReplyDeletetbh i think this is very true just 2 days ago they found a dead body at indian rock park..... which i always go in the woods i dont think i will ever go into the park AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
